Pizza Hut Crust Types - Which Crust Is the Best?

Pizza Hut is one of the world’s largest pizza chains, known for its delicious and diverse range of pizza offerings. One key factor that initially put Pizza Hut ahead of its competitors was its variety of crust types, which is now the industry standard.

From thick and gooey to thin and crispy, there’s a crust type for every pizza lover. In this article, we’ll dive into the four Pizza Hut crust types available in the USA.  They are – Original Pan, Hand Tossed, Thin ‘N Crispy, and Stuffed Crust.

Original Pan Crust

The Original Pan crust is one of Pizza Hut’s most popular crust types. It is loved by pizza enthusiasts for its crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior. This crust is made with a unique flour blend and, as the name suggests, is baked in a deep-dish pan to create its signature texture.

The crust’s thickness allows it to hold up well to various toppings, making it a versatile option for pizza lovers. The Original Pan crust is particularly well-suited for hearty toppings such as sausage, pepperoni, and vegetables, complementing the crust’s substantial texture.

The Original Pan crust is a great choice for those who prefer a classic pizza experience.

Hand Tossed Crust

The Pizza Hut Hand Tossed Crust is one of Pizza Hut’s classic crust types. It’s known for its traditional pizza flavor and texture and was first introduced in 1980.

The Hand Tossed Crust dough is softer than Original Pan dough, made from a unique blend of flour. It is tossed by hand into the air to create its signature texture and non uniform shape. The Hand Tossed crust is versatile and can accommodate a wide range of toppings, making it a popular choice for pizza lovers who enjoy a classic pizza experience.

Compared to Pizza Hut’s Original Pan crust, the Hand Tossed crust is generally thinner. This makes it a better option for those who prefer a lighter and crispier pizza crust. The crust, however, lacks the fried pan flavor of some of the thicker crusts.

Thin 'N Crispy Crust

The Thin ‘N Crispy crust is known for its light, crispy texture and delicate flavor. This crust type has a thin layer of dough stretched to the perfect thickness and topped with sauce, cheese, and toppings. The Thin ‘N Crispy crust is baked at a high temperature. As a result it produces a crisp, golden-brown crust that provides a crunch with every bite.

The Thin ‘N Crispy crust is also a great option for those who prefer a lower-carb or gluten-free pizza crust.

Stuffed Crust

The Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust is one of their most famous crust types, known for its unique twist on the classic pizza crust. This crust type was first introduced in 1995 and has since become very popular with pizza lovers worldwide.

The crust is made by stuffing a ring of mozzarella cheese into the outer edge of the crust. The result is an extra layer of cheesy goodness in every slice. The Stuffed Crust is an excellent option for cheese lovers who can’t get enough of that melty, gooey goodness.

Additionally the Stuffed Crust pizza is also great for sharing, as the extra cheese makes each slice more filling and satisfying. For those looking to try something new and different, the Stuffed Crust pizza is worth of a try.

How many Calories are in Pizza Hut Crusts

We compared the calories in a large pepperoni pizza in all four crusts to see how much variance there was between the crusts. The pizzas are the same in size and amount of toppings, therefore the caloric difference should be attributed to the crust.

Original Pan – 360 calories
Hand Tossed – 300 calories
Thin n Crispy – 270 calories
Stuffed Crust – 340 calories

The most significant calorie difference is between a Thin n Crispy Crust (270) and the Original Pan crust (360), around 90 calories.

The 90-calorie difference from a large Original Pan to a Thin n Crispy equates to just over 11 calories per slice.
